His Ways Are Perfect

In my private journals, I decided to try a new poetic form I read about in one of my writing magazines—the Shadorma. (Ever heard of it??—similar to Haiku-but longer–and definitely not confined to the topic of nature.)

The Shadorma is a Spanish poetic form made up of a stanza of six lines (sestet) with no set rhyme scheme. It is a syllabic poem with a meter of 3/5/3/3/7/5. From what I’ve read, it can have many stanzas as long as each follows the meter.

Apparently little is known about this poetic style’s origins and history but it is is gaining popularity and is  being used by many modern poets today. (I’m joining their ranks–though I’m at the end of the line–Oops! No pun intended!)

I was truly blessed by the process and discipline in learning this new poetic form. I have actually written others and will pass these along to you in future posts.  It seems to work in well with my devotional readings, as a way of making an application to what I have just read. Meditative poetry, in particular, strikes a  chord in my inner person and I find my personal reposes to God coming out easily  in the form of verse.  How about YOU?

Here is my  latest  ‘work in process’—His Ways Are Perfect-Reflections on the death and resurrection of Christ.

Try one yourself! Send it to me if you do! I love reading poetry of all kinds. Let me know what you learned in the process.

His Ways Are Perfect

In the dark
I cry to the LORD.
Help me, PLEASE!
Change my life.
My hopelessness surrounds me.
Hear my prayer, God.

Help me see
Your greater purpose
For my life.
My journey
Seems too hard. I’m feeling lost.
Lead me in Your way.

See the Cross—
It led Christ to death.
The dark tomb—
Place of death—
Full of dark and hopelessness.
It seemed like the end.

God’s way reigns!
Resurrection came
To show Christ’s
It brought us new Beginnings:
Sin and death vanquished!

Darkness gone.
Faith in Christ is born.
Teach His ways;
I will learn.
My hope, now in Christ my God,
Guides me in His truth.

I trust Him.
His ways are perfect—
His path good.
He has plans
For me; for my good—not harm;
Hope for my future.

The sun rises,
Shines down faith and hope.
Darkness gone—
Hope restored.
My love for God grows stronger.
I look to the Cross.
